For Educators
Civic Journey is a dynamic collection of accessible, easy-to-follow educational resources designed specifically for educators teaching English Language Learners (ELLs). With a strong focus on social studies, Civic Journey provides culturally responsive materials that inspire students to think critically, engage deeply, and participate meaningfully in the world around them.
This section is built for educators—particularly those teaching social studies to ELL students. These teachers are often passionate but overwhelmed, seeking high-quality tools that meet their students’ unique linguistic and cultural needs without compromising academic depth.
Civic Journey was born from personal struggle and lived experience. As a Spanish-speaking educator teaching social studies to ELLs, I saw firsthand the disconnect between what students wanted to learn and what was available to help them learn it. I navigated the classroom with few resources, and I witnessed the additional hardship faced by colleagues who didn’t share their students' language. The gap was clear. The need was urgent. So, Civic Journey began—out of necessity, compassion, and a deep desire to ensure all students could access meaningful civic learning.

Civic Journey stands apart by transforming social studies education into an interactive, immersive experience that transcends language barriers. Our resources integrate real-world application, culturally relevant content, and tools that promote critical thinking—all while being accessible to multilingual learners. This is not your average worksheet collection—it's a bridge between learners and the world.
Imagine a young student new to the country, eager to participate in a class discussion about civil rights, but unable to find the words—or the language tools—to contribute. Imagine the heartbreak of a teacher watching that student withdraw, knowing they deserve to be heard but not knowing how to help. Civic Journey is here to change that story. We create resources that give every student—no matter their language—a seat at the table and a voice in the conversation.
Civic Journey is grounded in lived experience, hopeful about what education can become, curious about the world and its stories, and courageous in challenging educational inequities. We are both practical and passionate—serious about pedagogy, but fueled by heart.
Civic Journey began in a classroom where passion for history met the pain of inequity. As a Spanish-speaking social studies teacher, I saw students struggle—not for lack of interest, but because language locked them out of learning. I spent hours creating my own resources, modifying lessons, and piecing together content that would meet my students where they were. I realized that if I was struggling, so were countless other educators—especially those who didn’t speak their students' languages.
I started Civic Journey to offer what I wished I had: a toolkit of thoughtful, engaging, multilingual-friendly resources that honor both the academic rigor of social studies and the lived realities of ELL students. Today, Civic Journey supports educators across classrooms, helping them bring history, culture, and civic dialogue to life—for all learners.
